Action movies are fun. The more explosions, car
chases, fights, and cool one-liners the better. Action movies
are about letting go. A good action film is an escape from
day-to-day routines. Below are the top action movies with
reviews for each.

Rocky and Rambo - Greatest Action Films of the 1980s
The Sylvester Stallone Rocky films
top the list of great action films. They are so well made
that they could even fall into the category of drama. The
original Rocky was a huge success at the Academy
Awards when it came out in the late 1970s. Recently Rocky
Balboa was a hit at the box office. The best Rocky
movies are the first film through the fourth and the last
movie released in 2006, Rocky Balboa. There was a fifth
Rocky movie that myself and most other Stallone fans
wish had never been made. The series was redeemed in Rocky
Balboa, a movie that was more about never giving up and
accepting age than fighting.
In the future students will study the Rocky films
the same way we study great literature
today. Stallone really was the master of action movies in
the1980s, and you can't mention action without talking about
Rambo II. This second Rambo film was about
a Special Forces vet that was sent back to Vietnam to take
pictures of POWs that were held in prisoner camps. Rambo,
of course, didn't just take pictures - he freed the American
POWs and decimated the Vietnamese. This movie was America's
way of dealing with our losses in Vietnam and regaining
some self-esteem lost during the conflict.

Star Wars
Star Wars was one of the first movies I remember
seeing. My dad took me to see Star
Wars
at the Alamo Theatre in Newnan, Georgia. We walked
into the theater late and my first vision on the giant screen
was of a dog fight in space. Star Wars changed the
way films were made and had a lasting impact on a generation
of kids that are now adults. The following Christmas I woke
up to find a set of the action figures from the movie, and
that remains one of my favorite Christmas memories. I can
still smell of the plastic and the feeling of Darth's cape
in my hands.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Raiders
of the Lost Ark ,
with Harrison Ford, is an easy pick for this list of top
action movies. I don't remember when I first saw the
movie, but I do remember watching it over and over so many
times that I can quote parts of the movie. The trilogy of
Raider's movies is a must have for any action movie fan.

Lord of the Rings
I never read the Lord of the Rings books,
but after seeing the Lord of the Rings movies
I have the The
Lord of the Rings books
on my list of must reads. These movies are the best
made films of all time. The special effect along with
the story and acting is excellent. You can buy the
entire set of Lord of the Rings movies from Amazon
for a fair price.

Spiderman
I grew up reading Spiderman comic books from Marvel
Comics, and I waited for this movie for years. There
had been rumors of a Spiderman movie as far back as the
late 1980s, but for one reason or the other the movie never
happened. That actually worked out well though, because
the stall gave time for computer generated special effects
to develop. Spiderman is an excellent movie that
combines everything I loved about the comic book with modern
special effects and a great story. Buy the Spider-Man
(Widescreen Special Edition)
