When John Masefield wrote Sea Fever, he likely had no idea that many years later so many people would identify with his passion for the beach. Each year, thousands of residents and tourist alike are drawn to the sand and the surf-from Key West in Florida to the coasts of New England and to the shorelines all around the US.
Rhode Island is a state known by many for its beaches—whether you like to boogie board, surf the waves, play beach volleyball or simply listen to sounds of the shore. - Atlantic Beach Park (Misquamicut) - An ideal beach, especially if you are traveling with children. You will find amusement park rides, a carousel, batting cages, bumper boats, mini-golf, Go Karts and a game room as well as several restaurants and a cocktail lounge.
- Bristol Town Beach (Bristol)- Enjoy the water or make waves on the shore as you and yours play volleyball, cruise the skateboard park, play tennis or get energized on the 6 mile fitness trail.
- Goddard Memorial State Park (Warrick)- This is Rhode Island’s most popular metropolitan park. You can go swimming, play golf, and have a picnic as well as activities like horseback riding, fishing, and hiking or use one of the 11 game fields.
- Misquamicut State Beach (Westerly)- This 7 mile beach offers clean, beautiful water with a gentle surf and very little undertow making it great for those not so comfortable with large crashing waves.
- Salty Brine Beach (Narragansett)-An extremely kid-friendly beach. You will find easy surf with a slow drop and no undertow, nearby is an area for fishing.
- Roger Wheeler State Beach (Narragansett)-You will find, in addition to the beach, a playground, a naturalist area, a pavilion, a concessions area and a lifeguard tower.
- Spring Lake (Burrillville) - Although it has only 570 feet of shoreline, there is much to do. You will find volleyball, paddle boats, an arcade, concessions, canoes, and kayaking.
- Easton’s Beach (Newport)-From surfing the waves to riding a boogie board or playing on the playground or cruising the skateboard park, there is plenty to keep you busy.
- Narragansett- Town Beach (Boston Neck)-With its half-mile beach, picnic area, concessions, cabanas and boardwalk, this is a great beach at which to spend the day.
- Charleston Breachway State Beach (Charlestown) - Hitch up your camper and boating needs and head to the Charlestown Breachway. You can spend a day or stay a week at this waterside camping area.
