Kenai PeninsulaAfter a couple of days in Anchorage we took a small plane over the Cook Inlet to the Kenai Peninsula. We landed in the small town of Kenai and rented a car. Kenai was originally an Indian village until the Prussians arrived in the the 1740s looking for fur. The area still has signs of the Russian culture. From Kenai we drove the short distance to Soldotna where we would be staying for several days in a fishing lodge on the Kenai River. |
Alaska Fishing Lodge and B&BOur room in the Sprucewood Lodge on the Kenai River was the size of a small apartment and out of our window we had a beautiful of the glacier fed Kenai River. The river was a aqua green color that reminded us of the waters in the Caribbean. Brad, the fishing lodge guide and owner, put together a great package for us that included a day of glacier kyaking, a fly in fishing trip, bear viewing, and a white water rafting trip down the Kenai River through the mountains where we saw bald eagles and other animals that are rarely seen back home.
