Homer Alaska

Homer, Alaska is one of those perfect places in the world. For the most part it hasn't been discovered like other perfect places like Key West and Savannah so it's charm and magic are still intact. Homer is the halibut fishing capital of the world, but that is not the only thing that makes this a great place. Homer, Alaska is situated between the Kachemak Bay and mountains. Across the bay you can see glaciers that are slowing cutting their way down the peaks of the Kachemak Bay State Park. The isolated city of 4000 is at the end of the Kenai Peninsula but at the beginning of imagination.

One thing that helped establish Homer as a fishing village was her position so close to the Pacific Ocean and a 4.5 mile thin strip of land that stretches out into the Kachemak Bay. The Homer Spit is is home to as many as 1500 fishing boat charters and boat operators. The beach on the spit is lined with tents in the summer of those doing seasonal jobs with the fishing industry. As you drive on the road through the spit you can see otters in the water and bald eagles in the air.

While in Homer make sure to visit the spit. If you love to fish you can fish in the pond that is on the spit. The pond is so full of salmon that you can see them jumping. If you have a chance find a way over the bay to the Kachemak Bay Stat Park. The world on the other side of the bay is pure Alaska. On your way in or out of town stop by the Pratt Museum. I expecially enjoyed the the Aleutian Island's World War II display.
