Top 10 Fun Family Faves in Georgia
Whether you are visiting Georgia from out of state or have lived there for years, you can always find plenty to do. Georgia tourism offers so many choices deciding what to do can be overwhelming. To help out here are 10 family favorites to get you started:
- The New World of Coca-Cola- As one of the most widely recognized soft drinks around the world, Coke has an interesting history. Here you can watch old movie reels, see Coke commercials of bygone years, view unique Coke art, and sample international Coke products in the tasting rooms...watch out for the Beverly!
- Six Flags - Are you looking for adventure? Six Flags features 11 roller coasters, water rides, shows, games and a special area just for the little ones. Plan on spending a day and bringing a camera.
- Georgia Aquarium - The world's largest aquarium and home to 120,000 animals. You will see aquatic life from all over the world. From sharks and stingrays to sea turtles and anemones the amazing aquatic creatures here are a sight to behold. You will have a great time and like learn a few interesting facts along the way as well.
- Stone Mountain -- With its hiking trails, paddle boats, petting farm, Civil War museum and more, there are so many ways to enjoy Stone Mountain you may decide to book a space at their campground. Comfortable shoes are a must as you will want to be able to explore the trails and various locations throughout the park.
- Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge (Folkston) - A 680 square mile refuge where you can learn about the wildlife and birds who live there. You can go on guided tours, boat trips, and other exciting activities in the great outdoors. The guides are knowledgeable and are happy to answer any questions about the wildlife and ecology of the area.
- Rock City (Lookout Mountain) – Winding paths, interesting rock formations, special lightning and decorations make this a unique family activity. You can explore caves and see unusual flora and fauna as well.
- Tanglewood Farm Miniatures (Canton)-From pot bellied pigs to baby doll sheep and more than 100 others, come see the miniature creatures and learn about their habitats and habits.
- Consolidated Gold Mine or Grisson Gold Mine (Dahlonega) -Both these locations provide the opportunity to pan for gold and gems. You can see a working stamp mill at Grisson and four underground tunnel tours at Consolidated.
- Wild Adventures (Valdosta) -See exotic animals, go on a safari train ride, ride go karts and much more. This is a great family activity no matter how “old” you are.
- Plan a weekend in Helen, GA - This north Georgia town is designed to resemble the Bavarian Alps. You will find the Alpine Amusement Park and the Antique Auto and Buggy Museum, Dukes Creek Mine, Charlemagne’s Kingdom and other family friendly locations sure to delight guests of all ages.
