Asheville
is full of great places to eat and drink. The biggest problem
with Asheville dining is finding a non-smoking restaurant.
This is surprising considering the progressive nature of
Asheville. One would think that a place full of so many
good people would care more about their visitors and pass
ordinances banning smoking in public places. Sadly, Asheville
is still behind in this regard but hopefully this fine city
will take the lead and bring North Carolina into the new
century.
Aside from the issue above there are many great places to
eat and a few of them are listed below.
Best Restaurants in Asheville
Tupelo Honey Cafe
Tupelo Honey Cafe is one of Asheville's favorite little
restaurants offering Southern food with an added touch.
This is a must stop establishment and it fills up fast so
get there early. The Tupelo Honey Cafe is located downtown
at 12 College St. in the Battery Park area.
Mellow Mushroom
Mellow Mushroom is a groovy little pizza restaurant
that sits in an old gas station. If the weather is nice
order a few beers and a pizza and sit outside. Asheville's
Mellow Mushroom is located downtown at 50 Broadway St.
Zambra Tapas Bar and Restaurant
Zambra is a tapas restaurant and wine bar that is almost
hidden on a steep hill on Walnut St. just off of Haywood
St. Zambra is within walking distance of the Asheville
Civic Center and great shopping on Haywood. Call ahead
for reservations: 828-232-1060
City Bakery
The City Bakery is a great place to get a good sandwich
and other items you expect at a first class bakery, but
the selection is small and the prices a little high. The
City Bakery is located at 60 Biltmore Ave.
Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria
Barley's Taproom has some of the best pizza in Asheville.
This taproom has a laid back atmosphere with a friendly
staff. Come back at night to hear some of the best talent
in the region performing bluegrass and other favorite styles
of music.
Jack of the Wood Pub
This smoke free pub is a great place to stop after a long
day of exploring downtown Asheville. Jack of the Wood Pub
serves great food and great Ales with live music. Located
at the corner of Patton and Coxe Streets.
If you are visiting Asheville try to spend your money in
the locally run establishments. This will ensure the future
of these great places that make Asheville special. While
visiting Asheville you may see many commercials on TV pumping
one restaurant or the other. These restaurants are often
below average and overpriced. If you want to find the really
good restaurants stick those listed on this page or ask
people working at your hotel or at any shop you visit because
the locals know the best places to eat in Asheville.
